How to Buy Your First Used Diesel Motorhome

There are many ways to purchase a used diesel motorhome. The most traditional way is from an area dealership who sells pre-owned diesel RVs. Due to the growing popularity of motorhome travel, more and more dealerships are opening all over the country. There are some distinct benefits to buying from a dealership. The first is reputation. You know that dealerships are licensed and insured because they often post their qualifications right on the office wall.

Another benefit is selection. When you walk into a dealership, you are automatically greeted with a big selection of motorhomes from which to choose. You can walk through and look at the features of each one before deciding which are your favorites. After you've narrowed down the field a bit, you can start test driving. It is important to test drive a motorhome before buying it because you want to make sure you are comfortable handling the vehicle. You do not want to get out on the road after spending tens of thousands of dollars and find out you hate the way the vehicle handles.

If you have owned a motorhome before or feel very confident about what you want, you can try other avenues. Newspaper classifieds are often a great place to find used vehicles, including motorhomes. Many sellers who are looking to upgrade their RV or just want to get rid of it will list it in the paper instead of taking it to a dealership. This method is a bit more labor intensive because it involves making calls and meeting with sellers but it can be worth it financially. Often you will find a better deal when you buy directly from an owner.

Another place to shop for a used diesel motorhome is the Internet. Classified ads websites are a good first stop. The most popular classifieds site right now is Craigslist. Although it started with a limited area, it now spans the entire country. If you cannot find anything on a classifieds ad site you may want to try an online auction site like Ebay. Ebay Motors is the section of the site where cars, trucks, SUVs, vans and recreational vehicles are sold. Just make sure you do some research to make sure your seller is legitimate and has a history of good feedback and customer service.
